Softball Game Preview: Almeta Crawford Chargers vs. Royal Falcons

The Almeta Crawford Chargers will venture away from home to face off against the Royal Falcons at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Almeta Crawford is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.3 runs per game this season.

On Friday, Almeta Crawford needed a bit of extra time to put away La Marque. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 9-8 win over the Cougars.

Adriana Pomales-Ng made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 16 batters over eight innings while giving up five earned (and three unearned) runs off seven hits. Those 16 strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-3.

In other batting news, Kylie Remington and Tiffany Rodriguez did most of the damage at the plate: Remington scored a run and stole two bases while going 2-for-5, while Rodriguez scored a run and stole two bases while getting on base in three of her five plate appearances. Chloe Dobbins was another key player, scoring a run and stealing three bases.

Almeta Crawford hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as La Marque struck out 16 times.

Meanwhile, Royal was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their sixth straight loss. They came up short against La Marque, falling 23-2.

Royal saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Valentina Mendoza, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one triple and one run. Brenda Valdez also deserves some recognition as she brought in her first RBI of the season.

Royal's defeat dropped their record down to 2-10-1. As for Almeta Crawford, their victory ended a four-game drought on the road and puts them at 5-6.

Almeta Crawford took their win against Royal in their previous meeting two weeks ago by a conclusive 16-1 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Chargers since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
