Basketball Recap: Palo Verde Titans vs. Santa Rita Eagles

The Palo Verde Titans came into Monday's matchup having lost 13 straight, but that streak is now in the rearview. They blew past Santa Rita 58-18 on the road on Monday. Palo Verde's offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.

Gaby Oliver was her usual excellent self, dropping a triple-double on 30 points, 20 rebounds, and ten steals. That makes it four consecutive games in which she has scored at least a third of Palo Verde's points. Alexis Guerrero was another key contributor, scoring 14 points along with six steals.

Despite the loss, Santa Rita still got an impressive performance from Jayla Brabham, who scored 11 points. That was a full 61.1% of Santa Rita's points, marking the third time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points.

Palo Verde's victory ended a five-game drought on the road and puts them at 2-15. As for Santa Rita, they dropped their record down to 1-16 with that loss, which was their 16th straight at home dating back to last season.

Palo Verde won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against the Vipers at 6:00 p.m. on January 23rd. San Miguel comes in still looking for their first win of the season. As for Santa Rita, they will head out on the road to square off against the Yellow Jackets at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. Tombstone presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than the Eagles in Arizona (the Yellow Jackets are ranked 140th, while the Eagles are ranked 284th).
