Recap: Benjamin Buccaneers vs. Saint Andrew's Scots
The Benjamin Buccaneers were the 52-43 winner over the Saint Andrew's Scots when they last played one another back in January, but their luck changed this time around. Benjamin was just a bucket shy of victory on Tuesday and fell 51-50 to Saint Andrew's. While losing is never fun, Benjamin can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 331st, while Saint Andrew's is ranked 91st).
Benjamin's loss came despite strong showings from Marlee Schwab and Nandini Patel. Schwab scored 15 points along with 6 rebounds, while Patel scored 24 points along with 7 rebounds. Patel scored a full 48% of Benjamin's points, the second time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Ja?nyia Donaldson, who scored 9 points along with 6 rebounds and 3 steals.
Saint Andrew's got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Delaney Beighley out in front who scored 13 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Emma Smith, who scored 14 points.
Benjamin's loss dropped their record down to 2-1. As for Saint Andrew's, their win bumped their record up to 1-0.
Benjamin will head out on the road to face off against Pine Crest at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Hopefully Pine Crest focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 35 on Tuesday. As for Saint Andrew's, they will look to defend their home court on Wednesday against Grandview Prep at 6:00 p.m.
