Basketball Recap: Beckham Bayles Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat Murray + How To Watch

Cyprus proved they can win big last Wednesday (they won by 24) and on Friday they proved they can win the close ones too. They narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past the Murray Spartans 66-63. For the Pirates, this counts as revenge for the 75-59 victory the Spartans walked away with the last time they faced one another back in December of 2024.

Cyprus' win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Beckham Bayles, who shot 5-for-9 from downtown and almost dropped a double-double with 22 points and nine assists. The contest was Bayles' third in a row with at least 18 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Koli Fosita, who went 7-for-11 on his way to 18 points.

Murray lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Roman Israyelyan, who shot 60% from the field en route to 17 points and six assists. Thanks to that strong game, he now owns an excellent 45.1% field goal percentage. Naish Hinckley also deserves some recognition as he posted his first blocks of the season.

Cyprus pushed their record up to 3-0 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home dating back to last season. As for Murray, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-4.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Cyprus will square off against Mountain Ridge at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Murray, they will face off against Judge Memorial Catholic at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Spartans' defense better be ready for this one: the Bulldogs have averaged an impressive 50.5 points per game this season.
