Softball Recap: Hazen Snaps Five-Game Streak of Losses on the Road

Hazen had lost five games on the road, but after bumping their record up to 4-15 on Tuesday that streak is in the rearview. They blew past the Renton Red Hawks 23-10. The Highlanders have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Red Hawks, too.

The team relied heavily on Kimberly Cushman, who went 2-for-4 with three runs and three RBI. That's the most runs she has posted since April 2nd. Mia Mennillo was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two runs.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Hazen kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 22 hits. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 4.4 hits per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 games they've averaged 9.8.

As for Renton, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-13. Those losses can't be blamed on the team's hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.5 runs over those games.

On Renton's side, Sophina Zebley led a balanced group of hitters, going a perfect 4-for-4 with three runs, two doubles, and one RBI. Zebley continues to improve, besting her previous run total in each of the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Mayliahna Pitoau, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.

Hazen does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Renton, they will look to defend their home field on Friday against Tyee at 4:00 p.m.
