Basketball Game Preview: Massabesic Mustangs vs. South Portland Red Riots

Massabesic hasn't had much luck against South Portland recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Massabesic Mustangs will head out on the road to take on the South Portland Red Riots at 7:00 p.m.

Last Friday, Massabesic was beaten by Scarborough 71-39. While losing is never fun, the Mustangs can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Maine basketball rankings (they are ranked 108th, while the Red Storm are ranked 33rd).

Meanwhile, South Portland didn't have too much trouble with Gorham on Monday as they won 63-45. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Red Riots.

South Portland is also on a roll lately: they've won ten of their last 11 matches, which provided a nice bump to their 12-3 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 60.5 points per game. As for Massabesic, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 3-12.

Massabesic took a serious blow against South Portland in their previous meeting back in January of 2023, falling 82-22. Can Massabesic avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
