Baseball Recap: Columbus Comes Up Short

Thursday just wasn't the day for Columbus's offense. They fell just short of the Springstead Eagles by a score of 2-0 on Thursday. The contest marked the first time this year in which the Explorers were not able to get on the board.

Samuel Alonso was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out eight over five innings pitched. He has been consistent : he hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts any time he's pitched this season.

On the hitting side, Columbus saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Mario Magana, who went 1-for-4 with one double.

Columbus' defeat dropped their record down to 12-4. As for Springstead, they have been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six games. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-3 record this season.

Columbus wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next match, a 13-7 win against South Dade on the 21st. As for Springstead, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, a 3-2 loss against Florida Christian on the 21st.
