Basketball Recap: Sutton Victorious

It may have taken overtime to finish the job, but Sutton ultimately got the result they hoped for on Wednesday. They slipped by the Bartlett Indians 63-62. Given the Sammies/Suzies' advantage in MaxPreps' Massachusetts basketball rankings (they are ranked 64th, while the Indians are ranked 201st) , the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Sutton's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Gus Jacobson led the charge by putting up 23 points. Jacobson's big performance that evening made it five games in a row in which he has scored at least 18 points. Another player making a difference was Chase Gara, who posted 18 points.

Despite the loss, Bartlett still got an impressive performance from Kenny Arpin, who put up 24 points. Kason Safford was another key player, earning 13 points.

The victory made it two in a row for Sutton and bumps their season record up to 11-3. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 61.5 points over those games. As for Bartlett, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-8 record this season.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Sutton will challenge Blackstone Valley RVT at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. The Beavers have been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games. As for Bartlett, they will head out to face off against Oxford at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. The Indians will need to watch out since the Pirates have now posted at least 55 points in their last three matchups.
