Basketball Game Preview: Cumberland Pirates vs. Okaw Valley Timberwolves

Cumberland is 2-8 against Okaw Valley since December of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Thursday. The Cumberland Pirates will welcome the Okaw Valley Timberwolves at 7:30 p.m. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Cumberland comes in on five and Okaw Valley on ten.

Cumberland is headed into the match after thoroughly thrashing Heritage: they outscored them in every quarter. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that Cumberland blew Heritage out of the water with a 53-9 final score. That 44 point margin sets a new team best for the Pirates this season.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Cumberland to victory, but perhaps none more so than Chase Stewart, who went 5 for 12 on his way to 14 points. Isaac Venatta was another key player, going 5 of 6 en route to 11 points and four steals.

Cumberland was working as a unit and finished the game with 12 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Heritage only racked up one assist.

Meanwhile, Okaw Valley strolled past Cerro Gordo/Bement with points to spare on Wednesday, taking the game 58-40.

Okaw Valley is also on a roll lately: they've won 12 of their last 13 contests, which provided a nice bump to their 12-8 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 61.1 points per game. As for Cumberland, their win bumped their record up to 12-8.
