Baseball Game Preview: Litchfield Purple Panthers vs. Pana Panthers

The Litchfield Purple Panthers will take on the Pana Panthers at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Litchfield's pitching crew has only allowed 3.8 runs per game this season, so Pana's hitters will have their work cut out for them.

Greenville hit Litchfield with a four-run seventh inning on Tuesday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Purple Panthers fell just short of the Comets by a score of 5-4.

Ethan Saathoff put in work while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he struck out six batters over 6.2 innings while giving up four earned (and one unearned) runs off seven hits (and only one walk). He has been consistent recently: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

Saathoff wasn't the only one making solid contact as five players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Max Leitschuh, who went 1-for-3 with one RBI.

Meanwhile, after a string of three wins, Pana's good fortune finally ran out on Tuesday. They fell just short of Vandalia by a score of 4-3.

Cash Lynch made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases and one run. Kezdyn Russell also deserves some recognition as he got his first hit of the season.

Pana's loss dropped their record down to 9-8. As for Litchfield, their defeat dropped their record down to 16-8.
