Basketball Recap: A'sharia Higgins' Big Game Can't Quite Lead Greene County over Northeast Lauderdale

After flying high against Pass Christian on Friday, Greene County came back down to earth. The Greene County Wildcats took a 33-28 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Northeast Lauderdale Trojans. The Wildcats were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Trojans apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in February of 2017.

Several Wildcats players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was A'Sharia Higgins, who posted 11 points and five boards. The dominant performance gave Higgins a new career-high in rebounds. Rayllin Williams also deserves some recognition as she posted her first block of the season.

Even though they lost, Greene County smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive boards in 18 consecutive matches.

Northeast Lauderdale's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jakayla Grace, who had six points and six steals. Grace is crushing it when it comes to steals: she's grabbed at least four every time she's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Jordyn Vaughn, who scored 11 points in addition to six boards and four steals.

Greene County's record now sits at 11-9. As for Northeast Lauderdale, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven contests, which provided a nice bump to their 13-4 record this season.

Greene County has already played their next game, a 38-30 loss against Moss Point on the 14th. As for Northeast Lauderdale, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 44-38 defeat against Newton County on the 13th.
