Flag Football Recap: Ellie Mezzadri and Seidel Thomson Lead the Defense for Point Loma Win

Point Loma won the last time they faced Hoover and things went their way on Tuesday too. The Pointers walked away with a 20-7 victory over the Cardinals. The final result isn't all that surprising considering the Pointers' considerable advantage in MaxPreps' California flag football rankings (they are ranked 241st, while the Cardinals are ranked 632nd).

Charlotte Klaus was nothing short of spectacular: she picked up 76 receiving yards and a pair of touchdowns. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in receiving touchdowns (two).

Point Loma's defense stepped up as well, laying out the QB five times. The heavy lifting was done by Ellie Mezzadri and Seidel Thomson, who racked up all five sacks between them. Thomson is on a roll when it comes to sacks, as she's now posted at least one in each of the last three games she's played.

Point Loma has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 7-6 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 11.8 points on average over those games. As for Hoover, they are on a 13-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-15-1.

Looking ahead, Point Loma will venture away from home to square off against Scripps Ranch at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Hoover, they will welcome Crawford at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Cardinals will be up against the Colts' rather soft defense (which has allowed 26.7 points per game), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance.
