Basketball Game Preview: Coolidge Colts vs. Jackson-Reed Tigers

The Coolidge Colts will welcome the Jackson-Reed Tigers at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. Coolidge is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 65.6 points per game this season.

Coolidge is probably headed into the contest with a chip on their shoulder considering Maret just ended the team's nine-game winning streak on Saturday. They lost to the Frogs on the road by a 65-49 margin. The defensive woes were uncharacteristic for the Colts, who until this match were averaging 24.67 points allowed.

Despite the loss, Coolidge had strong showings from Josslyn Derricott, who dropped a double-double on 18 points and 13 rebounds, and Kahmya Dixon, who posted 16 points and seven boards. Those 16 points gave Dixon a new career-high. Jaylyn Derricott was another key player, putting up four points and six boards.

Even though they lost, Coolidge smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 12 offensive boards in six consecutive games.

Meanwhile, Jackson-Reed faced Cardozo in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Wednesday. Jackson-Reed breezed by Cardozo to the tune of 63-6. The Tigers have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won ten contests by 20 points or more this season.

Jackson-Reed has also been performing incredibly well recently as they've won ten of their last 11 matches, which provided a nice bump to their 12-4 record this season. The wins came thanks to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 22.6 points per game. As for Coolidge, their defeat ended a ten-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 19-2.

Coolidge skirted past Jackson-Reed 43-40 in their previous matchup back in February of 2024. Will Coolidge repeat their success, or does Jackson-Reed have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
