Softball Recap: Marian Catholic Has No Trouble Against Wilson Area

Marian Catholic got the win against the Wilson Area Warriors on Saturday by a conclusive 12-1. Considering Marian Catholic has won three contests by more than nine runs this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.

Kayla Birrer spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered a run (which was unearned) on eight hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on DeAnna Pugh, who scored three runs while going 4-for-5. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in doubles (two). Hailey Treskolasky also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.

Marian Catholic now has a winning record of 3-2. As for Wilson Area, the loss snapped their winning streak at three games and leaves them with a 5-2 record.

Looking ahead, Marian Catholic will face off against Shenandoah Valley at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Shenandoah Valley has struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 16.8 runs per game on average), something Marian Catholic will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Wilson Area, they have already played their next game, a 9-3 defeat against Bangor on the 31st.
