Football Recap: Norwood Takes a Loss

If Norwood was riding high fresh off their 36-6 takedown of Monticello two weeks ago, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Mavericks were dealt a 54-24 loss at the hands of the Sanford Mustangs on Friday. The Mavericks gained 77 more yards on the day, but it was the Mustangs that made the best use of them.

Brycen Rummel threw for 270 yards and four touchdowns. Cole Bray was his top target, picking up 129 receiving yards and a pair of scores. On the ground, Owen Tackett rushed for 75 yards on only nine carries.

Norwood's defeat dropped their record down to 3-2. As for Sanford, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 4-1.

Coming up, Norwood will be playing at home against Dove Creek at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Mavericks will be up against the Bulldogs' rather soft defense (which has allowed 33 points per contest), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance. As for Sanford, they will challenge Sargent at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
