Basketball Recap: Ahoskie Christian Falls Despite Big Games from Lilly Lassiter and Mara Dae White

Ahoskie Christian lost against Mount Calvary Christian Academy back in November of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Monday. Ahoskie Christian took a 56-42 bruising from the Mount Calvary Christian Academy Warriors. While losing is never fun, Ahoskie Christian can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 476th, while Mount Calvary Christian Academy is ranked 237th).

Ahoskie Christian's loss came despite strong showings from Mara Dae White and Lilly Lassiter. White went 8 of 20 on her way to 20 points and six assists, while Lassiter posted 13 points and three steals. That was a full 47.6% of Ahoskie Christian's points, marking the third time in a row she's scored more than a third of the team's points. Kaylee Jones was another key player, putting up four points and eight boards.

Mount Calvary Christian Academy's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Hannah Rice led the charge by dropping a double-double on 21 points and 28 rebounds. Rice has been hot for a while, having posted nine or more boards the last 48 times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Riley Tuten, who put up 21 points and three blocks.

Ahoskie Christian has traveled a rocky road recently having lost five of their last six matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-11 record this season. As for Mount Calvary Christian Academy, their win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 16-4.

Ahoskie Christian wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 37-31 victory against Heritage Christian Academy on the 28th. Mount Calvary Christian Academy has also already played their next contest, a 39-34 win against Pamlico Christian Academy on the 28th.
