Baseball Recap: Springfield Takes a Loss

Springfield extended their losing streak to four on Tuesday, dropping their season record down to 9-10 in the process. They lost 14-4 to the Cardinal Mooney Cardinals. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last five times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.

As for Cardinal Mooney, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 16-6 record this season. Considering they have won ten contests by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

For Cardinal Mooney's part, Ryan Reese was a major factor no matter where he played. He struck out seven batters over four innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. Those seven strikeouts gave Reese a new career-high. He was also big at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Andrew Bushey, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, two RBI, and one double. Trent Litman was another key player, going 2-for-4 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run.

Coming up, Springfield will head out on the road to face off against Rootstown at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Cardinal Mooney, they will be playing at home against Liberty at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. The timing is sure in the Cardinals' favor as the squad sits on three straight wins at home while the Leopards have been banged up by eight consecutive losses on the road.
