Basketball Recap: Cumberland Academy of Georgia Takes a Loss

Cumberland Academy of Georgia was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their 12th straight defeat dating back to last season. They were four points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 45-41 heartbreaker at the hands of the Cottage Cougars. The Cyclones lost against the Cougars in their previous head to head back in November of 2023, too, but the margin this time around was much closer than the 66-29 score last time.

Cottage's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Jackson Barnes led the charge by dropping a double-double on 16 points and ten boards. That's the most points Barnes has posted since back in January. Gavin Akers was another key player, almost dropping a double-double on ten points and nine rebounds.

Cumberland Academy of Georgia's loss dropped their record down to 0-4. As for Cottage, their win was their first in the region, bumping their region record up to 1-5 and their overall record up to 2-8.

Cumberland Academy of Georgia will get a bit of extra time to process the defeat as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Cottage at 4:15 p.m. on January 17, 2025. Cottage also won't see the court for a while: their next match is against Varsity Opponent at 4:00 p.m. on January 8, 2025.
