After a string of four wins, the Coral Gables Cavaliers's good fortune finally ran out on Monday. They were outmatched by Ferguson on the road and fell 69-31. While losing is never fun, Coral Gables can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 466th, while Ferguson is ranked 166th).
Coral Gables' loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Veronica Trueba, who scored eight points. Sela Pena was another key contributor, scoring eight points.
It was another big night for Masielle Peralta, who scored 20 points along with seven rebounds and five steals for Ferguson. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Peralta has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Sophia Diaz, who scored 13 points.
Coral Gables' loss dropped their record down to 4-15. As for Ferguson, they are on a roll lately: they've won 11 of their last 14 matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 13-6 record this season.
Coral Gables does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Ferguson, they will take on Palmetto at TBD on Wednesday. Hopefully Palmetto focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 15 two weeks ago.
