Amity Regional is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Connecticut's top teams: Norwich Free Academy, who was ranked seventh at the time (Amity Regional was ranked 12th). The Spartans' pitcher stepped up to hand the Wildcats a 4-0 shutout on Saturday. Give the Spartans' pitching crew some credit: that's the team's third straight shutout.
Not much got past Gabby Celozzi, who gave up just two hits and racked up 11 Ks to keep Norwich Free Academy off the board. Celozzi has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two hits in seven consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Amity Regional saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Morgan Luddy, who went 1-for-4 with one home run. That home run was Luddy's first of the season. Leah Monschein was another, going 2-for-3 with two runs.
Meanwhile, Masuk posted their closest victory since April 19th on Monday. They had just enough and edged out Immaculate 8-6.
Masuk let Alyssa Castillo and Josie Lieto run wild. Castillo went a perfect 1-for-1 with one home run and three RBI, while Lieto went a perfect 2-for-2 with one triple, two RBI, and one run. Another player making a difference was Sofia Lieto, who went 2-for-4 with two runs.
Amity Regional's win bumped their record up to 17-3. As for Masuk, their victory bumped their record up to 17-1-1.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Tuesday. Amity Regional hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.6 home runs per game. However, it's not like Masuk struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 1.3 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
