Volleyball Recap: University Starts off Right with Win over Academy of International Studies

University gave their fans exactly what they wanted out of a home opener on Friday. They came out on top against the Academy of International Studies Dragons by a score of 3-1. The Hawks have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Dragons, too.

University was actually outscored in aggregate across those four sets (90-88), but they still managed to win. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 29-27, 25-16, 9-25, 25-22.

Angie Zuluaga- Gonzalez and Lisa Weinberg certainly did their best on Friday to avoid the loss. Zuluaga- Gonzalez had 31 digs, while Weinberg had eight aces and four digs. Zuluaga- Gonzalez is crushing it when it comes to digs: she's had at least 11 every time she's taken the court this season.

Having lost for the first time this season, Academy of International Studies fell to 5-1.

University will have some time to savor their victory since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Sports & Medical Sciences Academy at 5:00 p.m. on October 7. As for Academy of International Studies, they will look to defend their home court on Monday against Achievement First at 5:00 p.m.
