Softball Recap: Garfield Comes Up Short in High-Profile Match with Sedro-Woolley

Garfield faced Sedro-Woolley in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Saturday. The Bulldogs lost 10-3 to the Cubs. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat the Bulldogs have suffered since May 17, 2024.

Garfield got a good showing from Sammy Breckenridge, who pitched four innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off three hits. Breckenridge has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 14 consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Joie Cunningham was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-3 with one home run and two RBI.

Garfield's loss ended a six-game streak of away wins and brought them to 16-4. As for Sedro-Woolley, the victory (which was their 17th in a row) raised their record to 17-2.

Coming up, Garfield will face off against Seattle Prep at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. The Panthers have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 9.5 runs per game on average), something the Bulldogs will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Sedro-Woolley, they will challenge Burlington-Edison at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
