Athens and Marietta are an even 5-5 against one another since May of 2017, but likely not for long. The Bulldogs will be playing at home against the Tigers at 3:00 p.m. on Friday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Athens has five straight wins, Marietta has three straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

Athens came out on top against Nelsonville-York on Wednesday thanks in part to the team's impressive seven-run third inning. The Bulldogs were the clear victors by an 11-1 margin over the Buckeyes. The result was nothing new for the Bulldogs, who have now won four games by seven runs or more so far this season.

Meanwhile, Marietta came up short against Warren on Thursday, falling 8-1.

Athens' victory was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 7-1. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.7 runs on average over those games. As for Marietta, their loss dropped their record down to 4-8.

Athens beat Marietta 10-5 in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. Will the Bulldogs repeat their success, or do the Tigers have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
