Baseball Recap: Mesa Comes Up Short

Mesa extended their losing streak to three on Friday, dropping them down to 7-17. They came up short against the Tolleson Wolverines, falling 14-1. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Jackrabbits of the 5-1 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in April of 2025.

Mesa saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Brandon Carrizosa, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.

As for Tolleson, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record up to 12-11. Considering they have won nine matchups by more than five runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

On Tolleson's side, ISSAK VALDEZ made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. VALDEZ was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 1-for-1 with two runs and one double. Tolleson is undefeated when VALDEZ posts two or more runs, but 9-11 otherwise.

In other batting news, JOSE CORRALES was incredible, going a perfect 2-for-2 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple. He is becoming a predictor of Tolleson's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 7-11 when he doesn't). Another player making a difference was ANTHONY OROZCO, who got on base in all three of his plate appearances with three RBI, two runs, and one double.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming contests. Mesa will challenge Mountain View at 3:45 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Tolleson, they will take on West Point at 3:45 p.m. on Tuesday.
