Basketball Recap: Javion Taylor and Jasean Phillips Secure Win for Silver Valley

Silver Valley saw some tournament action on Thursday. They rang in the new year with a 64-55 win over the Del Sol Dragons. The victory was all the more spectacular given the Trojans' disadvantage in MaxPreps' basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 867th in California, while the Dragons are ranked 91st in Nevada).

Leading Silver Valley to victory were Jasean Phillips and Javion Taylor. Phillips went 8 of 15 en route to 18 points and five rebounds, while Taylor dropped a double-double on ten boards and ten assists. The game was Phillips' sixth in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Judah Caldwell, who posted eight points and five rebounds.

They weren't the only one working in the assists department: Silver Valley was working as a unit and finished the game with 22 assists. That's the most assists they've posted since back in January of 2024.

Silver Valley is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 7-4 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 64.4 points per game. As for Del Sol, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 1-5.

Silver Valley didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 67-33 win against Lake Mead Christian Academy on the 2nd. As for Del Sol, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 73-33 defeat against Green Valley on the 3rd.
