Basketball Recap: Burges Snaps Nine-Game Streak of Losses at Home

Burges extended their winning streak to three games thanks to a huge performance from Anthony Rubio. The Burges Mustangs came out on top against the Cathedral Fighting Irish by a score of 57-45 on Tuesday thanks in part to Rubio, who went 10 for 19 on his way to 23 points and three steals. That makes it five consecutive games in which he has scored at least a third of Burges' points.

The team also got some help courtesy of Phillip A. Leff, who posted seven points and eight rebounds. What's more, he also racked up four assists, the most he's had since back in December of 2023.

Burges' win ended a nine-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 11-12. As for Cathedral, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 9-14.

Burges and Cathedral could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps Texas Rankings. Burges (ranked 822nd) will meet Andress (ranked 243rd) at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Meanwhile, Cathedral (ranked 1070th) will meet St. Michael's (ranked 20th) at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday.
