Softball Recap: Lakeside Picks Up Third Consecutive Victory

Lakeside had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 10.5 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Wednesday. They walked away with a 14-11 victory over the Citrus Hill Hawks. That's the fourth time they've managed to beat them this season, with their most recent win being a 8-2 victory back in March.

Michaela Alvarado made a splash while hitting and pitching. She struck out seven batters over seven innings while giving up five earned (and six unearned) runs off 12 hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances. She was even better at the plate, going a perfect 5-for-5 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple. Those five hits gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Lakeside got a massive performance out of Gabriella Marquez, who went 3-for-5 with one home run and two RBI. That's the most hits Marquez has posted since back in March. The team also got some help courtesy of Reese Fisher, who went 3-for-4 with three runs, one double, and one RBI.

Lakeside kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 20 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in four consecutive contests.

Lakeside's record is now 10-14. As for Citrus Hill, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 8-12.

Looking ahead, Lakeside will face off against Vista del Lago at 3:15 p.m. on Friday. The Lancers' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Ravens have averaged an impressive 7.1 runs per game this season. As for Citrus Hill, they will welcome Heritage at 3:15 p.m. on Friday.
