Basketball Game Preview: Standish-Sterling Panthers vs. Gladwin Flying G's

Standish-Sterling is on a 11-game streak of home wins, while Gladwin is on a five-game streak of away wins: one of those streaks is about to end. The Standish-Sterling Panthers will welcome the Gladwin Flying G's at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Both come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Standish-Sterling saw some tournament action on Wednesday. They managed a 48-43 win over Clare. Given the Panthers' advantage in MaxPreps' Michigan basketball rankings (they are ranked 115th in Michigan, while the Pioneers are ranked 435th in Michigan), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Meanwhile, it was close, but on Wednesday Gladwin sidestepped Ogemaw Heights for a 52-49 victory. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Flying G's have posted against the Falcons since March 9, 2020.

Gladwin is on a roll lately: they've won 13 of their last 15 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 19-4 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 64.9 points over those games. Standish-Sterling's victory bumped their record up to 21-2.

Standish-Sterling was able to grind out a solid win over Gladwin in their previous meeting on February 7th, winning 75-68. Will Standish-Sterling repeat their success, or does Gladwin have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
