Basketball Recap: Kolten Andrus' Big Game Can't Quite Lead Desert Hills over Hurricane

If Desert Hills was feeling good fresh off their 63-40 takedown of Cedar last Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Desert Hills Thunder fell 62-49 to the Hurricane Tigers on Wednesday. The Thunder were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Tigers earlier this season, when they won 64-48.

Several Thunder players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Kolten Andrus, who went 5 for 6 on his way to 12 points and seven rebounds. The dominant performance gave Andrus a new career-high in points. Another player making a difference was Jack Openshaw, who went 5 of 11 en route to 12 points.

Brigham Kemp continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines for Hurricane, going 8 for 15 on his way to 23 points and five assists. The matchup was Kemp's fourth in a row with at least ten points. RJ Hurst was another key player, putting up 12 points and four steals.

Desert Hills' defeat dropped their record down to 11-9. As for Hurricane, they are on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six games, which provided a massive bump to their 12-8 record this season.

Coincidentally, the two teams will both be playing Crimson Cliffs the next time they take the court. Desert Hills will host Crimson Cliffs at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, while Hurricane will head out to face them at 7:00 p.m. on February 5th.
