Softball Game Preview: James Monroe Yellow Jackets vs. Eastern View Cyclones

James Monroe is 0-9 against Eastern View since April of 2018 but things could change on Tuesday. The Yellow Jackets will challenge the Cyclones at 4:00 p.m. Both come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

James Monroe came out on top against Maggie Walker on Friday thanks in part to the team's impressive five-run fifth inning. The Yellow Jackets walked away with a 9-5 win over Maggie Walker. The Yellow Jackets haven't had any issues with Maggie Walker recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive victory against them.

Meanwhile, Eastern View entered their tilt with Unity Reed on Monday with two consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with three. They never let the Lions get on the board and left with a 12-0 win. The result was nothing new for the Cyclones, who have now won four games by eight runs or more so far this season.

Ashlynn Settle made a splash no matter where she played. She tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one hit in three consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 1-for-1 with two runs.

In other batting news, Kierstyn Harris and Sara Hopper did most of the damage at the plate: Harris went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs, while Hopper went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run and four RBI. Those two runs gave Harris a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Ella Souliyadeth, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, two doubles, and one RBI.

Eastern View always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .852. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Eastern View pushed their record up to 7-1 with the victory, which was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.0 runs over those games. As for James Monroe, their record now sits at 3-7.

James Monroe might still be hurting after the 15-5 defeat they got from Eastern View in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. Can the Yellow Jackets avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
