Baseball Game Preview: Grant Park Dragons vs. St. Anne Cardinals

The Grant Park Dragons will take on the St. Anne Cardinals at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Grant Park is coming into the game on a four-game losing streak.

On Saturday, Grant Park came up short against Iroquois West and fell 10-7.

Grant Park saw seven different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Aiden Overbeek, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, one double, and one RBI. Overbeek has become a key player for the Dragons: the team is 2-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 4-12 otherwise. Oliver Malkowski also deserves some recognition as he got his first hit of the season.

Meanwhile, St. Anne never let their opponents score on Thursday. They were the clear victors by a 12-0 margin over Gardner-South Wilmington. That 12 run margin sets a new team best for the Cardinals this season.

St. Anne got a massive performance out of Jacob Onnen, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and one triple. Those three runs gave Onnen a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Jackson Hawkins, who went 1-for-2 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs.

St. Anne hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Gardner-South Wilmington struck out eight times.

The victory made it two in a row for St. Anne and bumps their season record up to 11-8. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.5 runs over those games. As for Grant Park, their loss dropped their record down to 6-13.

Grant Park couldn't quite finish off St. Anne when the teams last played back in March of 2024 and fell 7-5. Can the Dragons avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
