Basketball Recap: Nitro Takes a Loss

After flying high against Lincoln County last Saturday, Nitro came back down to earth. The Nitro Wildcats received a blow on Monday as they fell 66-47 to the Morgantown Mohigans. That makes it the first time this season the Wildcats have let down their home crowd.

Despite the loss, Nitro saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Brooklyn Cawley en route to 19 points. That's the most points Cawley has posted since back in December of 2024. Another player making a difference was Natalie Smith, who to rack up 15 points.

Nitro's defeat dropped their record down to 16-4. As for Morgantown, they are on a roll lately: they've won 11 of their last 12 matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 17-3 record this season.

Nitro will square off against Hoover at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Morgantown does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
