Cairo beats Westover for their eighth straight win

Recap: Cairo Syrupmakers vs. Westover Patriots

The Cairo Syrupmakers had already won seven in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 31.1 points), and they went ahead and made it eight on Friday. They blew past Westover 55-12 on the road. The game was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 34-6.

It was another big night for Kj Spence, who rushed for 288 yards and four touchdowns on only 15 carries. Spence's longest rush was for an incredible 74 yards. Bryian Duncan and his 96 yards on the ground were also a key factor in Cairo's win.

Despite the loss, Westover saw an underclassman step up: Keyon Thomas rushed for 11 yards and a touchdown, and also threw for 156 yards and a touchdown.

Cairo's win was their third straight on the road, which bumped their overall record up to 8-1. They've been dominating during the contests in that stretch too, as they've won by an average of 31.67 points. As for Westover, they have traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost three of their last four contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-5 record this season.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Cairo will have some time to savor their victory since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Bainbridge at 7:30 p.m. on November 3rd. Bainbridge is also coming in off of a big victory, so somebody is in for a big reversal of fortune. As for Westover, they will head out on the road to face off against Shaw at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
