Basketball Recap: C.J. Fidler Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat Cardinal Stritch

Montpelier saw some tournament action on Friday. They came out on top against the Cardinal Stritch Cardinals by a score of 71-62. Given the Locomotives' advantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked 353rd, while the Cardinals are ranked 727th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Montpelier to victory, but perhaps none more so than C.J. Fidler, who on his way to 31 points. The match was Fidler's sixth in a row with at least 15 points. Another player making a difference was Kenneth Smeltzer, who dropped a triple-double with 15 points, ten boards, and ten assists.

Montpelier's victory bumped their record up to 17-5. As for Cardinal Stritch, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 4-18.

Looking ahead, Montpelier will take on Edgerton at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. Montpelier is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 62.7 points per game this season. Cardinal Stritch does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
