Softball Recap: Rio Rico Drops Season-High Score on Amphitheater

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Rio Rico). They never let the Amphitheater Panthers get on the board and left with a 25-0 win on Wednesday. Winning may never get old, but the Hawks sure are getting used to it with their third in a row.

Kenia Navarro made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Those seven strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also big at the plate, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-3. She also hit a double, marking her first of the season.

In other batting news, Ayleen Salcido was a standout: she scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances. Those two runs gave her a new career-high. Andrea Loustaunau also deserves some recognition as she brought in her first RBI of the season.

Rio Rico was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .500. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their batting average total in three consecutive matches.

Rio Rico's record now sits at 3-9. As for Amphitheater, they are on a six-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-8.

Rio Rico and Amphitheater could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps Arizona Rankings. Rio Rico will take on Tanque Verde at 6:00 p.m. on Friday with a big rank disadvantage (190 vs. 38). Meanwhile, Amphitheater (ranked 240th) will meet Empire (ranked third) at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
