Basketball Recap: Benson Comes Up Short

Benson lost against Marian back in February of 2023 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The Benson Bunnies lost to the Marian Crusaders at home by a 67-52 margin.

Marian was led to victory by Paige Miller and Riley Sommers. Miller went 7 of 12 en route to 16 points, while Sommers went 6 for 8 on her way to 15 points and six rebounds. Those six boards gave Sommers a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Elsa Vedral, who posted 13 points and eight rebounds.

Benson's loss was their third straight at home, which dropped their record down to 6-12. That patch can't be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 51.0 points per game. As for Marian, the victory got them back to even at 8-8.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Benson will have a little extra prep time after the defeat as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on Columbus at 3:00 p.m. on February 8th. As for Marian, they will face off against Millard North at 7:15 p.m. on Thursday. Millard North will roll in looking for their eighth straight win, something Marian surely won't give up without a fight.
