Basketball Recap: Oxford Gets the Win

Oxford won the last time they faced Pell City, and Ava Thomas did her part to make sure it happened again. The Oxford Yellow Jackets took down the Pell City Panthers 54-35 on Tuesday thanks in part to Thomas, who dropped a double-double on 19 points and 12 rebounds. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in blocks (two).

Despite the loss, Pell City still got an impressive performance from Saniya McFarlin, who almost dropped a double-double on 15 points and nine boards. McFarlin's evening made it four games in a row in which she has scored at least ten points. Zaniya Mitchell was another key player, putting up 11 points and four steals.

Oxford's victory bumped their record up to 12-8. As for Pell City, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 7-18.

Coincidentally, both will both be playing Shades Valley the next time they take the court. Oxford will host Shades Valley at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, while Pell City will head out to face them at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
