Soccer Game Preview: Pius X vs. Gretna East

The Pius X Thunderbolts will square off against the Gretna East Griffins at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. Both teams are coming into the contest red-hot, with Pius X sitting on five straight victories and Gretna East on 19.

Pius X is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Saturday. They had just enough and edged out Norris 1-0. Give Pius X's defense some credit: that's the team's fifth straight shutout.

Meanwhile, Gretna East faced Blair in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Saturday. The Griffins were the clear victors by a 5-1 margin over the Bears. The result was nothing new for Gretna East, who have now won 16 matches by three goals or more so far this season.

They hit Blair with a three-pronged attack, as the team got scores from Sonora DeFini (3), Addison LaRock, and Kendall Dobberstein.

Pius X's win bumped their record up to 14-3. As for Gretna East, their victory bumped their record up to 19-0.

Pius X couldn't quite get it done against Gretna East in their previous matchup back in March as they fell 3-1. Can the Thunderbolts avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
