Volleyball Recap: Kearney Falls to Lincoln North Star in First Game of Season

Kearney unfortunately couldn't capitalize on their home-court advantage in their season opener. They came up short against the Lincoln North Star Navigators on Thursday, falling 3-0. The Bearcats have struggled against the Navigators recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive lost matchup.

Kearney was held off the scoreboard, but that almost wasn't the case: they kept the first set very close. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-22, 25-20, 25-19.

Jamie Wilkens paced Kearney's offense, picking up 13 kills. Wilkens got some help from Lena Arnold and her 28 assists. Makena Williams and Merrick Bruce kept things locked in from the service line: the pair finished with two aces apiece.

Lincoln North Star found their leader in sophomore Marie Paneitz, who had eight digs and two assists.

Kearney has already played their next contest, a 2-0 win against Columbus on the 30th. As for Lincoln North Star, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 3-0 victory against Lincoln High on the 2nd.
