Basketball Recap: Wheatland Bulldogs vs. Gering Bulldogs
Wheatland proved they can win big last Saturday (they won by 23) and on Thursday they proved they can win the close ones too. They skirted past the Gering Bulldogs 57-55. Given Wheatland's advantage in MaxPreps' basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked seventh in Wyoming, while Gering is ranked 105th in Nebraska), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Wheatland found their leader in sophomore Lily Anderson, who went 13 for 24 en route to 38 points in addition to five assists and three steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Anderson has scored all season. Molly Mcguire also deserves some recognition as she posted her first block of the season.
Gering's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jacey Cochran, who posted 13 points and eight boards. Cochran is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as she's now pulled down eight or more in the last three games she's played. Jacelyn Brown was another key player, going 5 of 10 on her way to 13 points.
Wheatland's win bumped their record up to 10-3. As for Gering, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 5-6.
Wheatland will take on Torrington at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. Wheatland is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 52.3 points per game this season. As for Gering, they didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 53-14 victory against Gordon-Rushville on the 17th.
