Basketball Preview: Lehman Lobos vs. Del Valle Cardinals
The Lehman Lobos will take on the Del Valle Cardinals at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
While Lehman didn't have the best season last year (they finished 8-27), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They took a 53-49 hit to the loss column at the hands of Canyon. The Lobos have struggled against the Cougars recently, as the game was their seventh consecutive lost matchup.
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Hazel Lyttle, who earned seven points in addition to 12 rebounds and two steals. She is becoming a predictor of Lehman's success: when she posts at least eight rebounds the team is undefeated (and 1-2 when she doesn't). Audrey Johnson was another key player, posting nine points along with four steals.
Meanwhile, Del Valle strolled past St. Andrew's with points to spare last Friday, taking the game 50-36.
Lehman's defeat dropped their record down to 6-2. As for Del Valle, their win ended a six-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 8-7.
Lehman was able to grind out a solid victory over Del Valle in their previous meeting back in November of 2023, winning 46-33. The rematch might be a little tougher for Lehman since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
