Belton-Honea Path (Honea Path, S.C.) came into Saturday's contest ranked No. 22 in South Carolina, but was stunned by
Chapman (Inman, S.C.), 17-7. Chapman was ranked at No. 31 in the MaxPreps Freeman Rankings for South Carolina coming into the week.
After trailing 7-0 at the half, the Bears went ahead on a touchdown with 8:00 remaining in the third. Chapman finally took the lead for the win when they scored a touchdown with 4:00 remaining in the third quarter.
CHS saw its 7-point halftime lead decrease to six entering the fourth.
The loss snapped Belton-Honea Path's five-game winning streak.
Belton-Honea Path's only touchdown came on a 5-yard run by
Dax Roper in the third quarter.
The Inman school entered the contest giving up 25.1 points per game this year. A defensively strong the Panthers kept Belton-Honea Path well below the 34.8 points it had been averaging per game.
The defeat comes as a step back for Belton-Honea Path, which notched a 42-12 victory over Broome in its previous outing.
