Washington took a 15-run defeat the last time they faced off against McGuffey, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Prexies narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past the Highlanders 12-11. Considering the Prexies' hitters had been struggling lately, the high-scoring outing was a much-needed turnaround.
Washington got a massive performance out of Jayden Hagan, who went 3-for-4 with one triple, one stolen base, and two RBI. That's the most RBI Hagan has posted since back in March. The team also got some help courtesy of Joseph Wilson, who went 3-for-5 with three RBI, two runs, and one double.
They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Washington kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 17 hits. They are 4-2 when they post 11 or more hits.
Washington's victory ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 7-8. As for McGuffey, their loss ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 7-11-1.
Washington will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Highlanders: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
