Basketball Recap: Weldon Valley Comes Up Short

Weldon Valley lost against Fleming back in February of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Weldon Valley Warriors took a 59-43 bruising from the Fleming Wildcats. That's two games in a row now that the Warriors have lost by exactly 16 points.

Despite the loss, Weldon Valley still got an impressive performance from August Filter, who posted 28 points and four steals. Filter's evening made it four games in a row in which he has scored at least 21 points. John Onufrak also deserves some recognition as he scored his first points of the season.

Fleming was led to victory by Dylon Monroe and Travis Johnson. Monroe went 8 for 16 to rack up 25 points in addition to five boards and three steals, while Johnson dropped a double-double on 12 points and 20 rebounds. Those 25 points gave Monroe a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Conner Marchant, who earned eight points and five boards.

This is the second loss in a row for Weldon Valley and nudges their season record down to 5-11. Their recent woes sure aren't a result of their performance when it comes to three-point shooting accuracy: their three-point shooting accuracy was 36.1% in those games and 28.6% outside of them. As for Fleming, their win was their first in the league, bumping their league record up to 1-2 and their overall record up to 2-14.

Looking ahead, Weldon Valley will be playing at home against Rocky Mountain Lutheran at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Fleming, they have already played their next match, a 44-37 victory against Denver Waldorf on the 8th.
