Rome was handed a heart-breaking two-run loss in their last matchup, but they sure didn't let that happen against Gordon Central on Tuesday. The Rome Wolves blew past the Gordon Central Warriors 9-2. The Wolves' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.
Rome got a great performance from Ryan Roberson as he struck out six batters over 5.1 innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off four hits. Roberson has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run any time he's pitched this season.
On the hitting side, Jackson Slatky was incredible, scoring three runs and stealing three bases while going 3-for-4. Those three stolen bases gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of JD Lanier, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-4.
Rome's victory bumped their record up to 2-3. As for Gordon Central, they are on a 21-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-2.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Rome will venture away from home to take on Cass at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Gordon Central, they are taking a road trip to challenge Southeast Whitfield County at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
