Softball Game Preview: Willow Spring Storm vs. Fuquay - Varina Bengals

The Willow Spring Storm will face off against the Fuquay - Varina Bengals at 4:30 p.m. on Friday.

Willow Spring fell victim to Corinth Holders and their airtight pitching crew on Tuesday. They fell just short of the Pirates by a score of 2-0. Having soared to a lofty 18 runs in the game before, the Storm's shutout was a dramatic turnaround.

Savannah Callis spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on 11 hits and racked up nine Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in five consecutive appearances.

Meanwhile, Fuquay - Varina posted their closest victory since March 25th on Tuesday. They had just enough and edged out Clayton 4-2.

Fuquay - Varina also let their pitcher toss all seven innings and she was also dialed-in: Kylie McGrogan gave up just two earned runs on six hits.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Chloe Webb, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with three runs and one triple. Those four hits gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Julie Selig, who went 2-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

Fuquay - Varina is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-6 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.5 runs on average over those games. As for Willow Spring, their loss dropped their record down to 10-10.
