The Monroe Township Falcons will head out on the road to square off against the East Brunswick Bears at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. Both come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Monroe Township barely beat South Brunswick the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Falcons were the clear victors by a 13-3 margin over the Vikings on Thursday. The Falcons haven't had any issues with the Vikings recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive victory against them.
Ohm Desai tossed a big game, striking out six batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off eight hits (and not a single walk).
On the hitting side, Justin Mangano and Ryan Olmo did most of the damage at the plate: Mangano went 3-for-4 with four RBI, two runs, and two doubles, while Olmo went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run and two RBI. That's the most runs Mangano has posted since back in May of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Jake Lobue, who scored a run while going 2-for-4.
Monroe Township always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .633. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as South Brunswick only posted an OBP of .391.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for East Brunswick, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Tuesday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 3-1 win over Old Bridge on Thursday.
Hayden Dziubeck spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on six hits and racked up seven Ks.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Joe Spinello, who scored two runs and stole two bases while going 1-for-3. Another player making a difference was Ryan Kenul, who went 1-for-2 with one double and one RBI.
Monroe Township's record is now 2-0. As for East Brunswick, the victory got them back to even at 1-1.
Monroe Township was able to grind out a solid win over East Brunswick in their previous matchup back in May of 2024, winning 4-0. Will the Falcons repeat their success, or do the Bears have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
