Softball Recap: Fitchburg Comes Up Short

Fitchburg extended their losing streak to five on Wednesday, dropping their season record down to 6-13 in the process. They came up short against the Maynard Tigers, falling 21-0. The game marked the first time this season in which the Blue Raiders were not able to get on the board.

As for Maynard, they pushed their record up to 15-3 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home. Considering they have won nine matchups by more than six runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.

For Maynard's part, Jillian Macfarlane was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits over five innings pitched. Macfarlane has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, one double, and one RBI. That's the most hits she has posted since back in May of 2024.

In other batting news, Ryleigh Raschi was a standout: she got on base in four of her five plate appearances with four runs and two stolen bases. That's the most runs she has posted since back in April. Haley Carroll also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.

Looking ahead, Fitchburg will welcome Algonquin Regional at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Maynard, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Clinton at 3:00 p.m. on Friday.
