Baseball Preview: Shady Side Academy Bulldogs vs. Steel Valley Ironmen
The Shady Side Academy Bulldogs will head out to take on the Steel Valley Ironmen at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Shady Side Academy has now lost seven straight, leaving the team hunting for their first win since March 31.
Shady Side Academy fell victim to Avonworth and their airtight pitching crew on Tuesday. They came up short against the Antelopes, falling 7-0.
Shady Side Academy saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Ty McCaskey, who went 1-for-2 with one double.
Steel Valley let Sewickley Academy stack five runs on them in the first inning on Thursday but luckily Steel Valley prevailed anyway. The Ironmen walked away with a 10-5 win over Sewickley Academy.
Logan Thomas and Jorden Smith did most of the damage at the plate: Thomas went 1-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one double, while Smith went 1-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. Steel Valley is undefeated when Smith posts two or more runs, but 2-6 otherwise. Adrian Briston also deserves some recognition as he scored his first run of the season.
Steel Valley hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Sewickley Academy struck out ten times.
Shady Side Academy's loss dropped their record down to 2-11. As for Steel Valley, they now have a winning record of 7-6.
Shady Side Academy skirted past Steel Valley 6-4 in their previous meeting back in May of 2018. Will the Bulldogs repeat their success, or do the Ironmen have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
