Softball Recap: Fountain Lake Comes Up Short

Fountain Lake had lost five straight on the road, but on Tuesday they dropped their record down to 4-9 to make it six. They lost 15-4 to the Bauxite Miners. The Cobras were not able to make up for their loss to the Miners from their previous meeting back in April of 2022.

Ellie Johnson was cooking despite her team's loss, going 1-for-3 with one triple, two RBI, and one run. Meagan Tillery was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one triple and one run.

As for Bauxite, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 14-8. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.0 runs over those games.

On Bauxite's side, Kim Smith and MJ Bermingham were major factors while hitting and pitching. On the mound, Smith tossed 2.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Meanwhile, Bermingham struck out seven batters over 3.1 innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off two hits. What's more, Smith posted three strikeouts, the most she's had since back in March. At the plate, Smith went 1-for-2 with two runs and one RBI, while Bermingham went a perfect 4-for-4 with four RBI and one run.

In other batting news, Emma King and KB Jacks did most of the damage at the plate: King went 3-for-5 with five RBI, one triple, and one run, while Jacks went 3-for-5 with four runs, one double, and one RBI. Jacks continues to improve, besting her previous run total in each of the last three games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of London Cunningham, who went 3-for-5 with three RBI and one double.

Fountain Lake has already played their next match, a 17-5 win against Jessieville on the 16th. As for Bauxite, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next contest, a 14-8 defeat against Cabot on the 17th.
